Porsche is working on something above the 911.

On October 15, Porsche reveals the Mission S, a new mid-engine supercar and halo car for the brand. In Porsche's own words, it's building a platform "that will enable a model line that sits above the iconic 911" (Porsche Newsroom).

After a brutal 2025

This car is the centerpiece of a big change in direction, and it comes after a rough year:

  • Porsche's operating profit fell from about €5.64 billion in 2024 to €413 million in 2025 (Porsche).
  • About €3.9 billion in one-off costs drove most of that: roughly €2.4 billion to rework its product plans and restructure, about €700 million for battery work, and about €700 million for US tariffs.
  • Much of that came from pulling back on EVs. Porsche delayed some all-electric models, pushed its next EV platform into the 2030s, kept gas and hybrid models on sale longer, and dropped plans to build its own high-performance battery cells.

China slumped too

Porsche delivered 14,501 cars in China in the first half of 2026, down 32% (Porsche). Worldwide deliveries were down 16% over the same stretch. Profit has started to recover this year, but sales are still falling.

Back to cars built for enthusiasts

Michael Leiters, who came to Porsche from McLaren, took over as CEO from Oliver Blume in January 2026. His plan is to take Porsche back to sports cars built for enthusiasts.

"We will focus on cars that truly define the Porsche brand. In every segment, we want to offer the sportiest car," Leiters told Autocar. He also told Evo, via Road & Track, that the new mid-engine car "will sit clearly above the 911."

What we know about the car

  • Reveal: October 15, 2026.
  • Layout: mid-engine, positioned above the 911.
  • Power: Autocar reports Leiters said it will be gas-powered. Porsche's own release doesn't say.
  • Specs and price: none yet. Porsche hasn't announced power, price, production timing or how many it will build.
