Aston Martin Valhalla Spider revealed: 1,064 hp, 217 mph with the roof off, about 250 cars

Aston Martin has taken the roof off the Valhalla. The Spider keeps the coupe's 1,064 hp plug-in hybrid V8 and 217 mph top speed, even with the roof stowed, but costs a lot more: UK reports put it around £1.3 million. About 250 will be built, most are already spoken for, and deliveries start in the second half of 2027.

Aston Martin's mid-engined hybrid hypercar now comes without a roof. The Valhalla Spider, announced on the evening of Oct 27, 2026 (US time) alongside the company's third-quarter results, keeps the coupe's 1,064 hp (1,079 PS) plug-in hybrid powertrain and its 217 mph top speed, and Aston says the Spider can reach that speed with the roof off. That makes it the fastest open-cockpit car Aston Martin has built, and its first mid-engined open-top production car (Aston Martin).

It won't be common. Aston says the Spider will make up roughly a quarter of the combined Valhalla run, which the company now puts slightly above the 999 cars it had previously indicated, so about 250 Spiders. UK reports say most are already sold, about a year before production starts (MarketBeat third-quarter call summary, Autocar, This is Money). The car makes its public debut this weekend at the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas (Oct 30 to Nov 1), where Aston had promised an unnamed world-exclusive debut (Autoweek, Wynn Las Vegas).

What changed from the coupe

Very little under the skin, which is the point. Aston says the technical differences between Spider and coupe come down to recalibrated active aerodynamics and stability control, tuned so the car behaves the same with the roof on or off. Maximum downforce is still more than 600 kg with the roof fitted. CAR magazine says the engineers described most of the changes as being done on a laptop (Aston Martin, CAR).

  • Roof: a removable black fabric panel is standard. With it fitted, speed is limited to 124 mph (200 km/h). An optional carbon-fiber hardtop lifts that limit to the full 217 mph. A rain cover is supplied for when the car is parked.
  • Wind deflector: a clip-in deflector goes on the windscreen header when the roof is off. It pushes air over the occupants and down into the engine snorkel. With the roof on, it folds into three pieces and stows in new 15-liter bins in the sills.
  • Snorkel: reshaped for the Spider and 35 mm taller, to keep feeding the engine air with the cockpit open.
  • Seats: a new carbon-fiber Touring Seat is standard and easier to get in and out of with the roof on. The coupe's more supportive carbon seat is a no-cost option.
  • Doors: still dihedral, now frameless, with smoother-moving hinges and slightly more curved glass for easier entry.
  • Weight: about 25 kg (55 lb) heavier than the coupe, according to CAR and This is Money. This is Money lists 1,680 kg.

The structure is a version of the coupe's carbon-fiber tub, built with resin-transfer molding and autoclave methods developed with Aston Martin Performance Technologies, the consulting arm of the Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 team (Aston Martin).

Powertrain and performance

The Spider uses the same plug-in hybrid system as the coupe. A flat-plane-crank 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 817 hp (828 PS), which Aston says is the highest specific output of any Aston combustion engine. Three electric motors add 248 hp (251 PS): two drive the front axle with torque vectoring, and one sits alongside the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox to help the V8 drive the rear wheels. There's no mechanical link between the axles. Combined output is 1,064 hp and 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft). Top speed is electronically limited to 217 mph (350 km/h), and CAR and This is Money report the same 2.5-second 0-62 mph time as the coupe (Aston Martin, Autoweek, CAR).

High speed or low speed. Rain or shine. Roof on or roof off. Road or track. Valhalla Spider ticks every box.

Price, production and deliveries

Aston Martin's launch release doesn't give a price, and the reports so far don't fully agree. Autocar, CAR and This is Money all put the Spider at around £1.3 million in the UK, and Autocar and This is Money describe that as roughly 40% more than the coupe. On the results call, chief financial officer Doug Lafferty put the premium at about 20%, according to MarketBeat's call summary (Autocar, CAR, This is Money, MarketBeat). Part of the gap is the starting point: This is Money uses £850,000 for the coupe and CAR uses £935,000. Lafferty also said personalization should add about 20% on top, in line with the coupe, so real transaction prices will run well above any base figure. No US price has been announced.

The timing is set. Aston expects to finish delivering the remaining coupes in the first half of 2027 and start Spider deliveries in the second half, running into the fourth quarter of 2027. The coupe is nearly sold out. Aston delivered about 350 Valhalla coupes in the first nine months of 2026 and still expects around 500 for the full year. Lafferty said a coupe-and-Spider plan had been in place for some time and wasn't a reaction to market conditions (MarketBeat, This is Money).

Analysis

Market perspective

The coupe gives a sense of what the Spider could do once it's delivered. In our US auction records for the Valhalla coupe, a 68-mile car sold for $2.2 million at Mecum Indianapolis in May, and a 270-mile car sold for $1,512,500 at Mecum Monterey in August (both including buyer's premium). Three others didn't sell, with high bids of $1.1 million (Bring a Trailer, July) and $1.3 million (Mecum Monterey in August and Mecum Nashville in September). On Oct 28 we tracked three US dealer listings for the coupe on duPont Registry: one asking $1,448,000 with 238 miles, and two with the price on request. Those are asking prices, not sales.

So the first-year resale story for the coupe has been mixed: one early car brought a big premium, then results settled closer to $1.5 million as more cars reached owners. These are US results only, so they can't be lined up directly against the Spider's UK price.

What it means for buyers

With about 250 Spiders against roughly 750 coupes, the open car will be the rarer Valhalla. But most Spider allocations are already gone, and deliveries don't start until late 2027, so buyers who missed out will likely be looking at early resales, where price will depend heavily on each car's options. Coupe owners thinking about selling to fund a Spider should note that coupe auction results have been uneven, with three cars failing to sell at high bids of $1.3 million or less.

What to watch

The Spider's public debut at the Wynn Concours this weekend will be the first chance to see the car in person. Still unconfirmed: an official price in the UK or the US, the exact production number, and how many allocations remain. We'll update this article as Aston Martin confirms them.
