Genesis's Magma GT3 Concept shows up in Milan as the mid-engine V8 supercar plan moves forward
Genesis's orange Magma GT3 Concept, the race-car twin of its planned mid-engine V8 supercar, turned up outside a Milan boutique on Oct 26, 2026. Here's what Genesis has confirmed, what's only been reported, and why a Hyundai-family supercar matters to buyers in the US and Canada.

A bright orange Genesis race car with its doors raised isn't something Milan sees every night. On Oct 26, 2026, the Instagram account @fastsupercaritalia posted a short night-time clip of one parked outside the Larusmiani menswear boutique, tagged #milanocity, with the caption "the sound isn't really bad" and a #v8 tag (Instagram).
The car looks like the Magma GT3 Concept, the racing version of Genesis's planned Magma GT supercar. It wears the same orange livery with large red Korean-letter graphics, the louvered hood, black wheels and upward-opening doors as the GT3 Concept that Genesis displayed in Korea in late September (Genesis newsroom). We're about 85% sure of the match. The clip is short and taken at night, and the giant rear wing never comes into frame. Genesis hasn't said why the car was in Milan. The location fits, though. Genesis launched in Italy in January 2026, and in April it ran a design collaboration with Larusmiani in Milan (Genesis newsroom).
Genesis showed the Magma GT road car first, at Circuit Paul Ricard in France on Nov 20, 2025. The company calls it its first "pure sports car typology." It's a low, mid-rear-engine two-seater, and Genesis says it's meant to become the brand's halo car (Genesis newsroom). That plan was first laid out at Hyundai's investor day in New York in September 2025, along with a long-term goal of racing in GT classes (Genesis newsroom).
At Le Mans in June 2026, Genesis added the GT3 Concept. It has wider tracks, a bigger splitter and air ducts, a fin on the door, a fixed rear wing and a large diffuser. Genesis says it was designed to GT3 rules from the start, "rather than being derived from an existing road-going model," and that it "remains under exploration" (Genesis newsroom). The same event showed the road car's interior for the first time: two separate cockpits and analog-style gauges, plus what Edmunds describes as a gated automatic shifter (Edmunds).

In September, Genesis ran the road car at the Tutto Bene hillclimb near Lake Maggiore, proving it is a running car and not just a show model (Genesis newsroom).

What's confirmed, and what isn't
Engine: Genesis's US site says the concept has a twin-turbo V8 "producing up to 800 horsepower," though each image is labeled "Concept vehicle shown. Not for sale" (Genesis USA). Genesis's press releases give no power figure, and Italy's Formula Motori says the power hasn't been announced (Formula Motori). Chasing Cars cites earlier reports of more than 450 kW, about 600 hp (Chasing Cars).
Link to the race car: Carscoops reports that the engine is a 3.2-liter twin-turbo V8 related to the one in the GMR-001 Le Mans prototype (Carscoops). Hyundai Motorsport lists that car's engine as a 3.2-liter turbo V8 rated at 680 hp (Hyundai Motorsport). Genesis itself hasn't said the road car uses it.
Timing: Carscoops cites reports of 2027 or 2028 (Carscoops), and Car and Driver says by 2030 (Car and Driver). Genesis hasn't given a date.
Price, weight, build numbers, US or Canadian availability: none announced.
The real hurdle is money
Hyundai CEO José Muñoz told Edmunds the project has to pass three tests: "Scientific feasibility: I think we have achieved that. The second one is technical feasibility — achieved. The third one is the financial feasibility" (Edmunds). Edmunds reports the program won't be allowed to lose money, and that demand from dealers and customers, especially in the US and South Korea, will help decide whether it goes ahead. On price, Muñoz said, "we definitely want to be competitive."
Racing adds a second reason to build it. Edmunds and Chasing Cars both report that a GT3 car needs a homologated road car, and put the minimum at 300 a year (Edmunds; Chasing Cars). Hyundai Motorsport chairman Cyril Abiteboul told Edmunds: "If there is a production car, there will be a racing car." Charles Fuster, Genesis's brand director for Italy and France, told Motor1 Italy the car "isn't a temporary exercise," as quoted by HotCars (HotCars).
The racing program behind it is real. Genesis Magma Racing's GMR-001 finished the 24 Hours of Le Mans on its first try, with the #19 car in 13th (Genesis newsroom). The team then took its first World Endurance Championship pole at Barcelona, and on Oct 21 it kept the same six drivers for 2027 (Genesis newsroom).

Where it would fit
Chasing Cars expects the Magma GT to compete with the Ferrari 296 GTB, McLaren Artura and Chevrolet Corvette (Chasing Cars). That's a wide price range. Our US and Canada data shows a median asking price of $350,062 for a 296 GTB (65 cars for sale) and $183,984 for an Artura coupe (74 cars) as of Oct 27, 2026. Toyota is on a similar path with its GR GT road car and GR GT3 racer. The Drive reports hints of about $225,000 for the GR GT (The Drive), and we covered the Toyota and Lexus side in our LFA successor story.
Analysis
Our take
The Milan clip proves nothing about production, but it shows how Genesis is promoting the car. It sends the most dramatic version to Europe's luxury capitals, Le Mans and hillclimbs, not to auto shows. That's how a brand builds a reputation before it has a car to sell. The open question is the business case, and Muñoz has made clear the car has to pay its own way. Our view: the GT3 program is the strongest reason to expect a road car, and the road car's price will decide whether this is a Corvette rival or a true exotic.
Analysis
What it means for buyers
Nothing to buy yet, and no order books. Be wary of anyone taking deposits or "allocations" before Genesis announces a production car.
The US is the market that matters. Hyundai's CEO has named US dealer and customer demand as part of the decision, so interest from American buyers counts.
First cars from a new performance brand can be good collector buys, but not always. The Acura NSX sold in small numbers. For a Magma GT, the first-year build count and whether it's sold through Genesis's normal dealers will matter most.
What to watch: a production approval, a power and price announcement, and any GT3 customer racing program, which would lock in the road-car volume.
Lexus is turning the LFA name into an electric supercar built on the Toyota GR GT's aluminum frame. A camouflaged prototype ran up the Goodwood hill in July and was photographed testing again this month. Here's everything Lexus has said, what's only been reported, the GR GT hardware underneath, the battery bet behind it, and what the original V10 car is worth today.
