JAS Tensei: a 35-car, Pininfarina-designed rebuild of the first Honda NSX, from €880K

Italian race car builder JAS Motorsport is showing the finished Tensei in Paris: a first-generation Honda NSX rebuilt with a carbon body by Pininfarina, a Judd-tuned V6 and a six-speed manual. Only 35 will be made, from €880K plus your own donor car.

The most collectible car at the 2026 Paris Motor Show isn't from a big carmaker. JAS Motorsport, an Italian race car builder, is giving the finished Tensei its first public showing in Paris. It is a ground-up rebuild of the first-generation Honda NSX, with exterior and interior designed by Pininfarina, and the car will carry a "Design by Pininfarina" signature (JAS/Pininfarina press release). Honda isn't involved in the project.

Only 35 will be built. Each buyer supplies an original NSX as the donor car, and pricing starts at €880K before taxes, options and the donor, which Motor1 puts at about $959K (Motor1; Auto Trader NZ). DriveLife quotes UK pricing from about £770K before VAT (DriveLife). For the rest of the show's performance debuts, see our Paris Motor Show 2026 roundup.

What JAS and Pininfarina changed

Pininfarina says its work started with proportions. Because JAS reworked the car's whole structure, the designers could change the wheelbase, track widths, stance and overhangs, giving a body that is wider, lower and more muscular than the original while still reading clearly as an NSX (JAS/Pininfarina press release). Signature details of the 1990 car are carried over in modern form: the side air intake, the rear wing built into the tail and a nod to the old pop-up headlights. Pininfarina says the aerodynamics were shaped into the body rather than added on.

The body is carbon fiber throughout, and Motor1 lists the dry weight at 2,756 lb (Motor1).

A Judd-built V6 and a manual

Engine builder Judd Power reworks the NSX's 3.5-liter V6 with a new crankshaft and titanium valves, and drops Honda's VTEC variable valve system. Motor1 reports 414 hp at 8,300 rpm and an 8,500 rpm redline. Power goes to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual and a limited-slip differential (Motor1; Auto Trader NZ).

Inside, Pininfarina kept the ideas that made the original NSX cabin famous: the driver comes first, the controls are easy to reach and nothing gets in the way. JAS and Pininfarina describe a clean, simple layout with technical materials and metal details, and say each car can be personalized to the buyer's taste (JAS/Pininfarina press release).

Where it's built

The cars are built at the JAS Motorsport Atelier in Arluno, near Milan. For buyers who want a fully bespoke car, Pininfarina's own atelier in Cambiano, near Turin, will also take part (JAS/Pininfarina press release).

Our objective was not simply to update the NSX's design, but to understand its essence and imagine how it might have evolved today.

How it compares

Restomods built on customer donor cars are now a well-known way to build modern versions of classic sports cars, but most are based on Porsches and other European cars. The Tensei stands out for its starting point, a 1990s Japanese mid-engine car, and for its price, which at €880K before the donor sits above many new supercars. Its pitch is the mix of a big-name Italian design house, a race car builder and a high-revving manual V6.

Analysis

Our take

Confirmed: 35 cars, a Pininfarina design, a carbon body, a Judd-reworked 3.5-liter V6 with a manual, and a starting price of €880K before taxes, options and the donor. Reported but not in the press release: Motor1's 414 hp, 8,500 rpm and 2,756 lb dry weight figures. JAS hasn't published delivery dates.

What it means for buyers: unlike the concepts in Paris, this is a car you can actually order. The bigger market effect may be on donor cars. Thirty-five good first-generation NSXs coming off the road to become Tensei builds could add to demand for clean examples. Original, unmodified NSXs are the cars to watch.
