About the 458 Italia
The 458 Italia is the car that showed what a modern mid-engined V8 Ferrari could feel like. Unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show as the successor to the F430, it was an entirely new design shaped by Ferrari's Formula One experience, with input from Michael Schumacher on a cockpit that puts the main controls on the steering wheel. At its heart sits a 4.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 that revs all the way to 9,000 rpm, where it makes 570 PS. It was also the first mid-engined Ferrari road car with direct fuel injection. Clever touches abound, like front grille winglets that flex at speed to cut drag. The press loved it: Top Gear named it Car of the Year 2009 and Motor Trend called it the Best Driver's Car in 2011. Today it is cherished as one of the last naturally aspirated mid-engined V8 Ferraris before the turbocharged 488 GTB took over in 2015.
