The Murciélago is the car that carried Lamborghini into the Audi era. Introduced in 2001 to replace the Diablo, it was the brand's first new design in eleven years and its first new model under Audi, part of the Volkswagen Group. Luc Donckerwolke penned the low, angular body, with the scissor doors every V12 flagship has worn since the Countach. The name comes from a fighting bull that survived an 1879 fight in Córdoba, and it is Spanish for "bat." The first cars used a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V12, whose roots go back to the company's start in the 1960s, making 580 PS through a six-speed manual and all-wheel drive. The LP 640, shown at Geneva in March 2006, grew to 6.5 liters and 640 PS, and the 670 PS LP 670-4 SuperVeloce of 2009 was the last and largest version of that original V12. Production ended on Nov 5, 2010, after 4,099 cars, and the Aventador replaced it in 2011.
