About the Murciélago Roadster
The Murciélago Roadster turned Lamborghini's V12 flagship into a true open car. Previewed as the Murciélago Barchetta concept at the 2003 Detroit Motor Show, it went on sale in 2004. Designer Luc Donckerwolke drew on the B-2 stealth bomber, a superyacht and Santiago Calatrava's architecture in Valencia for its new rear pillars and engine cover. The roof was a simple fabric cover meant for bad weather only: a warning on the windshield frame told drivers to stay under 100 mph with it fitted, and it folded into a leather bag in the front trunk. In late 2006 the LP 640 Roadster arrived with the 6.5-liter, 640 PS V12, and in 2009 Lamborghini built just 50 LP 650-4 Roadsters with 650 PS, all in Grigio Telesto gray with orange accents. Like the coupe, it was built until the Murciélago's final year, 2010.
