Ferrari's two surprise launches: the 296 Challenge Stradale looks first in line for Nov 21 in Barcelona
Ferrari's CEO promised this morning that two new models will be shown in person before the end of the year, without naming either one. The likeliest first car is the 296 Challenge Stradale, reported to be revealed on Nov 21 at Ferrari's season finale in Barcelona. Here's what's confirmed, what's rumored, and what the second car could be.

Ferrari has two new cars left to show this year, and it isn't saying what they are. On this morning's earnings call (Nov 3), CEO Benedetto Vigna said: "We will launch in the physical world two new models before the end of the year and we look forward to sharing them with you. Just wait a few more weeks and you will have a better understanding of what we are planning to do" (call transcript). We covered the rest of the results in our earnings story.
It's not a brand-new promise. Vigna also said on Ferrari's July call that two new models would come before year-end, and he didn't name them then either (Robb Report, autoevolution). What's new is the countdown: "a few more weeks" leaves November and December.
Car one: likely the 296 Challenge Stradale (not yet confirmed)
The strongest lead is a harder, hybrid-free road version of the 296 Challenge race car, which outlets are calling the 296 Challenge Stradale. On Oct 30, The Supercar Blog said its sources give a reveal date of Saturday, Nov 21, at Ferrari's Finali Mondiali in Barcelona, with prices starting at €320,000 including European sales tax. Autoblog repeated the report on Nov 1 and put that at about $358,000. That is a converted European price with tax, not a US sticker price, and Ferrari hasn't confirmed the date, the price or even the name. The full spy-photo history is in our running story.
What is confirmed is the event. Ferrari's season-ending Finali Mondiali, its 34th, runs Nov 17 to 23 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the first time it has been held there (Ferrari, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya). According to the event schedule published by ClubAlfa, Saturday, Nov 21 brings qualifying for the Ferrari Challenge classes, and Sunday, Nov 22 has the world final races, the owners' parade and the closing Ferrari Show. Ferrari hasn't announced a new-car reveal at the event.
The date does fit Ferrari's habits. At the 2023 Finali Mondiali at Mugello, Ferrari used the Saturday gala evening to unveil two new cars, the 499P Modificata and the 296 Challenge race car this road car is said to be based on (Ferrari).
No hybrid system (rumored): reports say it drops the street 296's plug-in hybrid parts and runs on the twin-turbo V6 alone (The Supercar Blog, Carscoops).
About 720 horsepower (rumored): up from the 296 Challenge race car's roughly 690 horsepower, according to Carscoops and Autoblog.
About 1,300 kg, or 2,866 pounds, dry (rumored):Carscoops puts that at about 375 pounds less than the regular 296 GTB.
Race-car looks (seen on test cars): a swan-neck rear wing, a big front splitter, deeper side skirts, a large diffuser and twin center exhausts (The Supercar Blog).
How many (unclear):Carscoops, citing The Supercar Blog's August report, said it won't have a set production cap, while ClubAlfa says limited production is expected.
Treat every number in that list as unconfirmed until Ferrari publishes its own.
There were hints on today's call too. One analyst mentioned a special series "maybe coming in the next couple of weeks". Ferrari's finance chief didn't confirm it, but said more special versions are planned for the fourth quarter than usual. And Vigna, answering a different question, said "you will see other things getting out pretty soon" (call transcript).
Car two: still a guess
Ferrari hasn't given any clue about the second car. These are the two candidates seen testing, but both were tipped for 2027 rather than this year:
F80 Aperta. An open-top F80 with a removable roof panel has been photographed testing around Maranello. Carscoops reported production could be limited to 399 cars, against 799 coupes, and Motor1 expects a debut in 2027, Ferrari's 80th anniversary year. CarBuzz notes Ferrari has also registered F80 Targa and F80 Roadster as names.
A hardcore 12Cilindri.evo photographed a 12Cilindri test car in July with big front canards and a large ducktail spoiler, following the F12tdf and 812 Competizione formula, and expects a reveal in 2027. Its name isn't known; GTO is one guess.

So if the 296 Challenge Stradale is car one, car two could be one of these arriving early, or something no one has spotted yet. We'll know within weeks.
What street 296s ask today
On Nov 3 we were tracking 64 296 GTBs listed in the US, with a typical asking price of about $350,000 (from $289,995 to $479,900), and 66 296 GTS spiders at a typical asking price of about $438,000 (from $368,995 to $629,900). There were no 296s listed in Canada. These are asking prices, not sales, and they mix years and mileage. You can follow them on our Ferrari dashboard.
Analysis
Our take
Vigna gave no names, but "two new models" and "a few more weeks" narrow things down a lot. The 296 Challenge Stradale fits it best: it has been spied for months, the reported date lands on the Saturday of an event where Ferrari has unveiled cars before, and a road car built from the Challenge racer belongs at the Challenge season finale.
For buyers, the interesting part is the recipe. Every road-going 296 so far has been a plug-in hybrid. A lighter, V6-only road car would be a very different kind of 296, and if the reported €320,000 holds, it would cost well above what most used 296 GTBs ask today. Until Ferrari shows the car, though, the power, weight, price and date are all reports, not facts.
What to watch
Saturday, Nov 21 at the Finali Mondiali in Barcelona: whether the 296 Challenge Stradale appears as reported.
Ferrari's official name, power, weight and US price, if it does.
Whether the second car is the F80 Aperta, the hardcore 12Cilindri, or something else, and whether it's shown at the same event.
Whether either car is a limited run and already sold out to existing clients.
How street 296 GTB and GTS asking prices move once a harder 296 is official.
Ferrari sold slightly fewer cars this summer but made more money on each one, thanks to the F80 and buyers spending more than ever on options. It raised its 2026 outlook again, says orders now run into 2028, and promised two new models in the metal before the end of the year. One of them is expected to be the 296 Challenge Stradale, due to be revealed later in November.
Camouflaged 296 prototypes point to a roadgoing, hybrid-free Challenge Stradale, and a new report says it could debut Nov 21 at Ferrari's Finali Mondiali in Barcelona from about €320,000. Here's what's confirmed, what's rumored, and what our 296 asking prices look like today.

A blue 2021 Ferrari 812 GTS with 8,298 miles is now listed at $699,997 in Boca Raton, Florida, down from $895,997 in August. It's not alone: the typical asking price for an 812 GTS in the US has fallen from about $899,900 to about $840,000 since mid-September, and 86 of 98 cars listed the whole time have been cut.
